Hello and welcome to our Bergala Family Farms blog! We are a homesteading, working, family of 4 living in the Sierra Foothills of California. Several years ago we had a dream to move out of the city, out of our neighborhood, and into the mountain country area and start a small farm.

For our first blog post I thought it would be fun to get to know us a little bit by sharing with you about our family life on our small family farm.

Welcome To The Family!

Around here on the farm, the senior management is called Mom and Dad and meetings around the dining room table are our favorites. Everyone has a role and it takes all of us to make it work. We are proud that the results of all this hard work makes its way to our table, too.

The Bergala's

There is no such thing as a typical day around here. Things are always changing depending on the time of the year, the seasonal  activities, school, local town functions, the weather, or even our mood, you know how it is!

Wholesome Meals

About 5 years ago, our family wholeheartedly made a lifestyle change by switching over to a whole food diet, and since then we have shed some serious pounds! My cart at the grocery store always looks so wholesome and nutritious now, overflowing with fruits and vegetables! We stopped buying cereal, sugar, white rice, and other processed and boxed food items.

The hardest thing I think was the kids saying goodbye to those cereals with sugar.

Together, we grow more and more of our own food every year and we cook almost everything from scratch.  We grow all of our own herbs and we raise chickens and ducks.

As a family, we are becoming more and more self-sufficient with each passing season and our journey is real and raw.

Healthy Breakfast Options

We still have a lot of yummy breakfast options for them to choose from such as homemade pancakes with blueberries picked from a local neighbor farm or fresh picked strawberries from the garden.

I’m always making gluten free homemade banana muffins, oatmeal with  honey from one of the local farms served with, chia seeds and fresh fruit. Or even one my favorite breakfast options, our farm fresh eggs (we always have eggs!) served with an avocado and toast. I love a runny fried chicken egg!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Another place that we love to stock up on fresh whole foods is at our local farmers market…but I’ll talk more about that in another post.

Raising Chickens

Yes, we have become accustomed to farm life now, raising our chickens and roosters. This life must suit us, because we are still having a ton of fun!
